Our Brown Treated Machine/Moulded Sleepers are machine finished with smooth curves to two edges and a planed finished to the other two edges, making them the perfect choice for children's play areas, raised beds and edging for pathways. These softwood sleepers can be stacked on top of each other horizontally or placed vertically, allowing this versatile sleeper to be used for a variety of landscaping applications.
Passed through a fixed dimension moulder, they will be as accurate as they can be given the natural characteristics of the timber. They are then pressure treated with Tanatone, a Tanalith preservative containing a built-in brown colour. The brown colours of Tanatone treated timber are an alternative to the initial pale green colouration of Tanalith treated timber. Tanatone is an additive to the usual industrially applied Tanalith preservative treatment which offers longevity and increased protection against fungal and insect attack - the treatment is completely safe for children and pets alike.
Where cutting, machining, notching and boring has to be carried out, although the timber has been impregnated with Tanatone, the area of timber revealed by the cross cuts, holes or notches must be liberally brushed with a suitable end grain preservative.
Each sleeper is unique. Being a natural product, there may be colour variations, splits, knots and wanes.
Initially a brown colour from pressure treating the timber with Tanatone. Upon external exposure the brown colour slowly weathers to a warm honey brown colour and in the longer term becomes a natural silver grey.
